Price lists are used to set pricing for products in a catalog. Because sites have a default catalog and price lists are assigned to catalog, pricing you set in a price list is really set for a specific site. Keep in mind that if your company has multiple sites, those sites can be set to use the same default catalog so a price list could be shared among more than one site.
There following list outlines the different types of price lists you can create. You can create multiple versions of each price list type as long as one price list is not set to begin while another price list is still active. Use the start and end dates correctly to ensure that you have constant (but not overlapping) coverage by a price list of a certain type on your store.
Note: The list and subscription renewal price list types are the only types that will work on your store without any custom work by our Site Design team. The other price list types are used in special cases where special pricing is needed. Contact your Store Operations team to learn how you can use one of other types of price lists on your store.

When you create a price list you must choose a default currency. The default currency is the one in which you should enter a price for all your products because it is the default currency price that is used to calculate prices for other locales if you have not entered a price for a product in the currencies used by your supported locales. For more about how prices for supported locales is calculated or entered, see Localizing Prices below.
Once you save the price list you cannot change the default currency so make sure you select the right one. If you want to change the default currency for a price list but you have already saved your price list and cannot change the default currency, you will have to create a new price list and set the current price list to expire so the new price list will be the active price list on your store.
Price lists will also contain supported currencies in which you can enter pricing to be used in supported locales. The currencies that appear in a price list are determined by a setting in another system that is only available to Digital River internal users. If you have a problem with the currencies in your price lists, please contact the Store Operations team.
If your store supports multiple locales, your price list will contain space for you to enter pricing in currencies used by the locales supported by your store. The price you enter for a product in a currency will be used by any locale that uses the currency in which you entered the price. If you do not enter a price for a product in a specific currency, the price set for the product in the default currency will be converted and used.
Price lists do not contain variations. Only the base product is shown in a price list. To set pricing for variations, you must view the base product and then edit each variation and set pricing there.
When you create (or edit) a price list you can indicate if the pricing for products includes value added tax (VAT). If you select this option for a price list, all the pricing you enter in the price list should include VAT and your store should be set up to indicate that pricing includes VAT when a shopper is viewing a product.
When you set pricing for products in your price list, you can indicate whether a product is allowed a zero price. A zero price is usually used with promotional or giveaway products.
Stores can show only one price for a product on the Product Detail page. The only exception is when the product has a promotion or offer that discounts the price (and strikethrough pricingWhen the regular or normal price of a product is crossed out, and the sale or promotional price is listed instead. has been set up for the site) or if the site is a private store (previously known as a purchase plan site) and that site has been set up to show both the base price and the private store price. In both cases, the original (or base) price will be shown with the promotional or private store price.
