Basic Product Settings

There are some settings that are used for every product regardless of the type of product or the options you have enabled for the product. Not all these settings will be needed by every product but they are the basic settings used by every store for every product. The picture below shows these "basic" settings.

Basic Product Settings Attributes

Attribute

Definition

Internal Product Name

Name of the product that is used internally in the Command Console. This is the name that will be used in reports, offers, and other places in the Command Console. This name does not appear on your store or to shoppers.

Site Product Name

Name of the product as you want it to appear on your store and seen by shoppers.

SKU

The SKU (Stock Keeping Unit) is a code (letters, numbers, symbols, or combination) that uniquely identifies a specific product. The SKU may appear to shoppers on your store or used in reporting.

Unlike the Product ID, which is generated by the system, your company creates this ID.

Options

Note: If you select the "display product" option but do not select the "purchaseable" option for a product you can set "Not Applicable" for the ECCN and Country of Origin in Export Controls. This is because if you aren't selling the product you do not have to set the export control options.

Display Product – Indicates whether the product can be seen on your store when a shopper browses a category of product or performs a search. If you do not select this check box the product can still be accessed via URL.

It is common for stores to not select this check box for products that will be a giveaway or promotional product for certain customers. This prevents the general public from finding the product but allows you to offer the product to select customers using a promotional URL.

Purchasable – Indicates whether the product can be purchased on your store. This includes "purchasing" the product for $0 (such as with a promotional or giveaway product).

Note: Making a product purchasable also makes it searchable on your store. If you want your product to be searchable you must select the purchasable option. See the topics in the Store Search book to learn more about searching on your store.

External Reference Number

The code (letters, numbers, symbols, or combination) that uniquely identifies a product to a third party.

Unlike the Product ID (which is generated) or the SKU (which may not be unique) the third party decides what identifies this product.

The External Reference Number is set only once per product. It can be edited, but it is not localized or modified for a variation. When you import products, it can be set in the product's default locale only.

Manufacturer Name

Name of the company that manufacturers the product.

This value can be customized and localized for a variation.

Manufacturer Part Number

Number the manufacturer uses to identify the product. This value can be customized and localized for a variation.

Note: If your manufacturer part number exceeds 50 characters, please contact Digital River. Depending on how your fulfillment works, a manufacturer part number that exceeds 50 characters may cause issues.

Return Type

Indicates whether the shopper must physically send the product back or if they must comply with an ELOD and delete the software they purchased.

Physical Product – Indicates that the product must be physically returned to the fulfiller or store.
Electronic Letter of Destruction (ELOD) – Indicates that an ELOD must be completed for the product to be returned. An ELOD certifies the shopper has destroyed all copies of the product and will not continue to use the product.
